Nikon 1 J4 Review

The Nikon 1 J4 all in one lens is probably the best point-n-shoot camera. The camera is portable, user-friendly and fun to use, capturing lovely images. I've had at least 5 people walk up to ask me about my tiny camera with interchangeable lenses (yes, I already bought the 30-110mm lens.) They comment on the camera's very portable size and surprise about the interchangeable lenses and seem impressed with the crisp display. I'm impressed that Nikon 1 J3 can make my photos look good.

Nikon 1 J4 Review

Pros:
The most amazing feature that most people do not know about is the 1200 frame per second high speed video mode. The resolution is limited and you can only shoot 4 seconds, but if you need it, this feature is a deal maker and enough to justify the purchase. For anything from analyzing golf swings, to debugging flickering LEDs (what I use it for), it is an amazing tool.

Con:
Must remove the battery to charge- it does not charge though the USB port. This means that you must bring the bulky charger with you rather than the USB cable you probably are bringing anyway. This is silly. It also means that you have to remove your tripod shoe every time you charge your battery and loose any alignment you had

Review

I absolutely love this camera. I purchased it refurbished, no worries it looks and operates like new. I am in real estate, and the first comment I get when I pull it out of the bag is how pretty it is. So much of what I do requires really nice pictures and this camera does not disappoint. I specifically chose this one because it helps with stabilizing the pictures so I don't have to put up with blurry pictures. It is easy to use, even tells you when you've left the lens cover in place. Okay, that may be something really basic to those used to working with high end cameras, but I am someone jumping from using a cell phone. Don't be concerned about purchasing refurbished, don't be concerned about the camera being too complicated. It's a great camera at a great price.

Review

It's not a top of the line camera, but for the price it can't be beat. I purchased it mainly to take pictures of cats at the shelter, and it has worked wonderfully so far. Despite the cat constantly moving, or moving at the last second 9 times out of 10 the picture comes out crystal clear. It even takes very clear pictures of my fish! That alone is amazing.

The camera control options I think are a bit limited, but I can't really complain for the cost. Just something to get used to. I'd suggest it for anyone looking for a basic point and shoot without tons of frills. just the right size, all the buttons are solid feeling and takes great pictures of fast moving fish/cats.

Nikon Coolpix L330 Review

Nikon Coolpix L330 | If you are looking for a snapshot camera that can pretty much do it all, this Nikon Coolpix L330 is worthy of your consideration. I am a camera nut and own both full-size Nikon SLRs (my present one is the Nikon D5300) as well as small pocket cameras. This L330 is essentially a hybrid between the two -- it is small (and light) enough to be easily carried, and yet has a large and powerful lens that can do many things better than a true pocket camera.

Nikon Coolpix L330 Review

The outstanding characteristic of Nikon Coolpix L330 is the lens. The lens features a much larger objective lens than any pocket camera, which means that it is capturing more light for more detail and sharper shots. For taking still pictures, for example, I notice a clear difference in favor of this camera in comparison to my Canon pocket camera. The 26X optical zoom really makes this camera a "do all" for both landscape shots, portraits, and many other kinds of shooting. Like all cameras of this class, this one is probably not the camera to use for action shots such as flying birds or football games, although it may do in a pinch.

Ergonomically Nikon Coolpix L330 is well thought-out. I was able to pretty much completely figure this camera out without resorting to the manual, which is a good thing as the manual is nearly useless. Most users should simply spend 20 minutes browsing through the camera menus; this will adequately familiarize most users with the camera. (The manual is very rudimentary.) Frankly, you can put most settings on "auto" and do just fine with this camera. The viewfinder shows both shutter speed and F/stop, which is a nice feature for more advanced shooters. The flash is easy to use and is pretty good for a flash of this class.

Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera Review

Nikon and Canon have long dominated the entry-level portion of the DSLR market with plenty of strong interchangeable lens camera options, so when these two manufacturers offer new models into this segment of the market, photographers will always pay attention.

Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera Review
Nikon's latest entry into the low end of the DSLR market is the D3300, which Nikon calls an HD-SLR camera. (I'm not exactly sure what makes the D3300 an HD-SLR other than it shoots full HD movies, so I'll just refer to it as a DSLR to avoid confusion.)

Simply put, this is a strong still image camera offered at a reasonable price. Nikon has given the D3300 a large image sensor with 24-plus megapixels of resolution, and the image quality with this model is outstanding. So if all you want is a strong still image camera without some add-on bells and whistles, the D3300 is a terrific option for a first DSLR camera.

However there are a few drawbacks with this model that prevent it from receiving my top rating. The LCD has no touch capabilities, and it isn't articulated. There's no built-in Wi-Fi option either. If you use the camera's LCD to frame photos (called Live View mode) rather than the viewfinder, the camera's performance slows quite a bit. And even though Nikon is calling the D3300 an HD-SLR, your ability to have manual control over movie recording is very limited.

I liked the Nikon D3300 very much as an entry-level DSLR camera. But if you want more than just a strong still image camera -- and those add-ons are important to some photographers in the current market -- then the D3300 falls a little short.

Specifications

    Resolution: 24.2 megapixels
Optical zoom: N/A (uses interchangeable lenses)
    LCD: 3.0-inch, 921,000 pixels
    Maximum image size: 6000 x 4000 pixels
    Battery: Rechargeable Li-Ion
    Dimensions: 4.9 x 3.9 x 3.0 inches
Weight: 15.1 ounces (no battery and memory card)
    Image sensor: CMOS APS-C sensor (23.5 x 15.6 mm)
Movie mode: Full HD 1080p (60fps)

Pros

Image quality is above average versus others in price range
Good starting price versus comparable models
    Fast performer when using viewfinder
Can use as a fully automatic camera or in manual mode
A bit smaller and lighter than other entry-level DSLRs

Cons

No "extra" features like touch screen display or built-in Wi-Fi
    Movie controls are very limited
D3300's popup flash must be opened manually; doesn't open automatically as needed
When shooting in Live View mode, camera's performance slows
    Resolution choices are very limited

Nikon D5300 DSLR Review

Those seeking an entry-level DSLR camera will be very pleased with the Nikon D5300 model. It has all of the basic photography features that you'd expect to find in an advanced interchangeable lens digital camera, including outstanding image quality and fast performance.

Nikon didn't skimp on the "extra" features with the D5300 either. It offers a high-quality 3.2-inch articulated LCD screen, which is great for shooting odd-angle photos or for using this model when attached to a tripod. You'll also find built-in Wi-Fi with the D5300, which is a very popular feature with cameras currently in the market.

Nikon D5300 DSLR Review
The large DX format image sensor that Nikon included with the D5300 includes 24.2 megapixels of resolution, which is among the largest resolution numbers you'll find in a DSLR camera. The large image sensor helps this model to perform extremely well in low light photography.

The biggest drawback to the Nikon D5300 is its large starting price at more than $1,000. The D5300 is among the most powerful introductory DSLR cameras on the market, but it also carries one of the higher price tags for that type of DSLR Camera  model. If you're someone who would like to purchase a DSLR camera that's easy to use at first, but that also allows you to learn more about intermediate photography as your skills improve, the D5300 can help you grow your skills.

As long as the D5300 fits in your budget, it's tough to go wrong with this model.

Specifications

    Resolution: 24.2 megapixels
Optical zoom: N/A, uses interchangeable lenses
    LCD: 3.2-inch, 1.037 million pixels
    Maximum image size: 6000 x 4000 pixels
    Battery: Rechargeable Li-Ion
    Dimensions: 4.92 x 3.9 x 3.0 inches
Weight: 16.9 ounces (camera body only)
Image sensor: CMOS DX format, 23.5 x 15.6 mm
Movie mode: Full HD 1080p (60fps)

Pros

    Great image quality
Low light results are good with large image sensor and high ISO settings
LCD is large, bright, and articulated
Fast camera performance when shooting in Viewfinder mode
Good mix of automatic and intermediate shooting features

Cons

    Starting price is high
Camera performs slowly in Live View mode
Battery drains too quickly in Live View mode or when using Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi can be difficult to set up and use
    Only three image sizes available

Nikon Coolpix S9700 Review

While the Nikon Coolpix S9700 has a few flaws, this model's strong versatility makes it a great travel camera. The 30X optical zoom lens will give you the option of shooting photos over a variety of distances, which can be handy when you're traveling, because you won't know how close you can get to landmarks ahead of time. And with the Coolpix S9700 only measuring 1.4 inches in thickness, it should fit easily in a carry-on bag, making it easy to travel by air with this camera or to slide it in a pocket while you're seeing the sights.

Nikon Coolpix S9700 Review
Nikon provided the S9700 with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities, which enhances this model's value as a travel camera. You can identify landmark locations through the built-in GPS, and you can make automatic uploads of your photos as you shoot them through the built-in Wi-Fi, ensuring you have a backup copy available in case your memory card fails while on your trip.

Image quality is pretty good with this model, and its autofocus mechanism is able to achieve very sharp photos throughout the 30X optical zoom range. You will notice some image flaws from time to time, so don't expect to make extremely large prints with the Coolpix S9700's photos.

If you can find the Nikon S9700 at a bargain price of less than $300, this model will provide a really good value along with its strong versatility.

Specifications

    Resolution: 16 megapixels
    Optical zoom: 30X (25-750mm)
    LCD: 3.0-inch, 921,000 pixels
    Maximum image size: 4608 x 3456 pixels
    Battery: Rechargeable Li-Ion
    Dimensions: 2.5 x 4.3 x 1.4 inches
Weight: 8.2 ounces (with battery and memory card)
    Image sensor: CMOS 1/2.3 in.
    Movie mode: Full HD 1080p

Pros

Impressive 30X optical zoom lens in a thin camera
Good mix of automatic and manual control features
Autofocus mechanism provides very sharp photos
OLED display provides bright and sharp images
    Battery life is very good

Cons

Some image quality flaws, such as purple fringing, in tough shooting conditions
Some noise in low light images
On-screen interface and menus are a little confusing to use
Built-in GPS and Wi-Fi features can be a little difficult to set up
Touch screen display would have been a nice feature

Image Quality

Image quality is a bit of a mixed bag with the Nikon Coolpix S9700, although it's more than adequate for making small prints and for sharing photos over social media networks.

The S9700's strengths in terms of image quality include its ability to shoot extremely sharp photos throughout its optical zoom range, as the autofocus works well. Exposure levels are accurate with this model as well, and its Hybrid Vibration Reduction feature does a good job of preventing camera shake.

But you may notice problems with purple fringing in scenes with high contrast and excessive noise in low light photos, especially if you have to bump the ISO past the 400 setting.

At 16 megapixels of resolution and with a 1/2.3-inch image sensor, the S9700 isn't going to give you top-notch image quality or allow you to create large prints. And it does lag behind some other models in its price range in terms of overall image quality. Still, its image quality is more than good enough for general, everyday photography needs ... like the kind you're probably going to shoot while traveling.

Movie quality is good with the S9700, and you can choose from several different video resolutions.
Performance

The 30X optical zoom lens helps to set the Nikon Coolpix S9700 apart from most other thin cameras. This lens is a really good performer for a thin zoom model, offering sharp images throughout the zoom range.

Nikon gave this camera strong performance levels, allowing you to shoot your first photo only a couple of seconds after pressing the power button. Shutter lag is minimal in good lighting conditions, and the S9700 recovers pretty quickly after you shoot each photo. Shot-to-shot delays are minimal even when you're using the flash.

The Coolpix S9700 has a few different continuous-shot modes, all of which work very well.

Battery life is good with this model, allowing you to shoot most of the day without needing a recharge. However if you choose to use the built-in GPS or Wi-Fi capabilities with the S9700, you can expect the battery life to drain far more quickly.
Design

The biggest design flaw for the Nikon S9700 is its on-screen menus. These menus are not very well organized, and it can be difficult to find the exact camera settings you want to change. This model has no shortcut popup menu to provide quick access to commonly used settings either, which is disappointing.

Nikon did provide a sharp and bright OLED screen with this model, which works well for framing photos even in bright sunlight. The 3.0-inch screen's anti-reflective coating works as advertised. In this price range a touch screen feature would have been nice.

The inclusion of Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities with the Coolpix S9700 represents some of the added price of this model versus similar units. So if  you don't expect that you'll use these two features, you probably can receive a better value by looking elsewhere for a thin zoom camera to meet your needs.

Review on Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera

For people looking for new DSLR camera, stop, this is it, Nikon D3100 is for you When intentionally overloaded by myself on continous shots, it will clear the buffer very fast (ADL on if you're wondering). Image sensitivity at high ISO is great acording to random reviwes, but I'm still waiting a prof test. But think about it, on Auto ISO the range goes to 3200 and I can't see any noise. You can shoot everything with Nikon D3100.

My Own Review

After more than 1,000 shots with this camera in the last 2 weeks, I'm very glad with the purchase. This lightweight and fast device is a joy to use! Very lightweight, and great looking design. This Nikon feels great in my hands, the build quality seems sturdy and looks kind of pro even for it's smallness compared to bigger DSLRs. I love how I can set the func button to control ISO or other stuff like White Balance.

The lens included with the camera is very very sharp, so far I cannot complain. I'm amazed at the clean images I get with ISO 3200 indoors! Wow, that's something that we couldn't say a few years ago with these cameras. I've already had pictures published in the newspaper set at those high Isos, and no problem... They look great!!

I also love the option of setting Picture Controls and Auto ISO. I usually set my camera to Portrait or Standard plus a little bit of saturation.

I have already taken lots of photographs indoors without flash, portraits outside, candids indoors and outdoors, and even handed the camera to my brother (who knows nothing about operating DSLRs) for shooting parts of a concert and he got some beautiful pictures!! And that's one of my favorite things abut the camera: I can give it to other people to take pictures as a point and shoot, and they enjoy using it and taking nice photos without worrying about setting stuff.

I really don't care about video capabilities, nor liveview. I rarely use them but when I have done it, I've liked what I've seen. My only complaint is the battery, as I think it drains quickly compared with other cameras in the similar category I've seen. So, for recording my life in those moments I don't mind carrying something bigger than my ultracompact, the Nikon D3100 is perfect. I wouldn't bother to carry something bigger or heavier. This is the perfect balance.

I'm an amateur photographer and this camera meets my needs. I love the fact that it's small and light, with great quality images. I'm happy with my purchase and I highly recommend this camera.
